Twilight of the Gods?

Early Hours Of  May 7th: Frying Tonight?

The opinion polls continue to suggest that no single party will get an overall majority in the General Election. So it should be, if no-one can get 50% or more of the vote.

If that happens, what next? Neil Clark suggests all three main parties could disintegrate. That includes the Lib Dems. A frequent moan from those opposed to Proportional Representation is the Lib Dems would always hold the balance of power. However, if they were to be in a coalition and had to take responsibility for governing, and for policies that went wrong, why should their support hold up? I wonder how long Vince Cable would be popular if he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and had to oversee tax rises, public spending cuts and bail-outs from the EU and the IMF?

For those of you hoping the Labour Party falls apart in the aftermath of the General Election, you may want to read this to cheer yourself up. If you want to the Conservatives to have a journey through the seven levels of political hell from May 7th, this may be more to your taste.

Of course, it did cross my mind some of you out there may want both of them to suffer…
